Details of Tour:

Picturesque and unforgettably beautiful, Wellington is nestled around a sparkling, bustling harbour with residential housing extending up the sides of green valley hills. Voted the most liveable city in the world in 2017 and 2018, you will not be disappointed with your tour of our lovely city.

This tour will delight you with breath-taking scenic views and photo opportunities, along with the fun of experiencing first-hand some of our favourite tourist attractions.

You will be picked up from your meeting point and we will continue downtown past Te Papa and the QT hotel, seeing St Gerard’s church and monastery before we drive up to the top of Mount Victoria to see spectacular views of Wellington’s city and harbour. Have your cameras ready!

Our tour then moves away from the city and takes us to the Italian fishing area hugging the rugged coastline of Island Bay. We will stop at a museum in Owhiro Bay which displays some interesting history about the Wellington southern coastline.

It is time to drive to Weta Studios on the Miramar Peninsula for your Lord of the Rings experience and Weta Workshop tour, where Weta Workshop guides will have many interesting surprises in store for you around the making of the Lord of the Rings and other films. You will also have a chance to purchase Lord of the Rings memorabilia (for any Tolkein fans) and more photo opportunities outside.

At the conclusion of your Weta Workshop tour we have a table reserved at the popular local seaside cafe, where you can relax and enjoy some local kiwi cuisine from the menu.

After lunch we will continue further around the coastline, passing Peter Jackson’s house pass the local Wahine monument, where 52 people lost their lives on 10 April 1968 when the roll on/roll off ferry capsized on Barretts Reef (just a short distance from the shoreline) during a hurricane.

Continuing around the coastline, passing popular Oriental Bay is next on the list before we venture through the different parts of the inner city, ending up at the bottom of the iconic Wellington cable car (which first carried passengers in 1902).

After you have travelled to the top in the cable car and visited the quaint museum at that end, you will have more breath-taking panoramic views of the harbour and city. Then it is an easy stroll back down through the lovely Botanic and Lady Norwood Rose Gardens, before seeing Parliament Buildings and visiting Old St Paul’s Cathedral – one of the world’s best examples of Gothic Revival architecture.

You are then dropped off wherever you wish within the city centre and we know you will take with you lasting fond memories of your visit to Wellington.

Very competent, very nice, fantastic experience
Richard took us on a full day tour to see Wellington on 21st of August. He showed us all the attractions we wanted to see and some more. He is very knowledgable but does not overload you with his knowledge.
It was a perfect sightseeing day for us.
He did everything in a very nice and outgoing manner.
Highest recommendations!!!

Great Wellington day trip tour
Had a lovely day seeing the highlights of Wellington with Richard owner and guide of Xplor. The tour was well paced and not rushed. The included lunch was scrumptious and in an out it the way place, best vegetarian burger ever and my friend enjoyed her fish meal. Richard is fun company and had lots of local info. A full day tour that speed by with a great mix of beautiful scenery and city sites. Highly recommended if you have limited time in Wellington

Richard is the BEST !
Had a lovely day seeing the My wife Kim and I visited New Zeland for the first time about 2 weeks ago. We pre booked this excursion in Wellington based on reviews we read online. When we got to Wellington, Richard greeted us and explained the itinerary for the day. He said the main goal along with seeing Wellington was to have fun. And we did! Richard is personable, knowledgeable , engaging, and has a great sense of humor. We learned so much about Wellington but in a fun way. He even emailed us pictures he took of us during the trip. If you read this review, stop shopping and book the full day tour with Richard. You won't regret it...... Greg and Kim B.-Chino, CA.

Brilliant way to see the city in a few hours
Excellent tour and guide, I usually use the city hop on hop off sightseeing tours but this was a much better way to see the city! I had one full day in Wellington and after this tour felt like I had made the best use of my time, plenty of photo stops (without the need to wait half an hour-hour for the next bus to come back) and even a stop at the weta cave which no other city tour seemed to do, plus a few other surprises along the way! Richard is a great guide and I really enjoyed the tour, would definitely recommend it! Thanks, Fiona from Ireland July 2018
